Discovering a strange creature suspected to be an abandoned alien baby caused a stir among scientists in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh (Video)
A video showing a baby with redness and cracks has gone viral, naming it ‘alien baby’ and ‘demon child’. The video claims that the baby was born in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli, or as an infant born in Kanpur’s Akbarpur district.
The short clip, which also shows a gloved hand covering the infant, is also being shared to claim that the infant did not die even after giving 50 poisonous injections. some social media posts of the video also claim that this ‘demon baby’ was born to a Muslim family.
However, the video shows an infant with a rare genetic disorder called Harlequin Ichthyosis. The disease is very rare and the incidence rate is unknown. However, a research paper from Barts Health NHS Trust claimed that the disease strikes only one in 3,00,000 babies.
Dr. Simal Soin, Chief Dermatologist at AAYNA Clinics said that Harlequin Ichthyosis was a “rare genetic skin condition” causing “massive thickening of skin over the entire body,” which leads to distortion of normal facial features.
A search on the internet led to a few related news articles with this information. A story by ETV Bharath was also found, which contains the same video as the original post.
The baby was actually born in Ratlam’s Civil hospital in Madhya Pradesh and is called a collodion baby (CB). It means a newborn whose entire body is covered with an adherent, supple, parchment-like membrane.
Hence, it can be concluded that the incident occurred in Madhya Pradesh and not in Uttar Pradesh. No reports were found on the internet that prove the kid was poisoned 50 times and eventually killed by slitting his/her throat.
In 2016, India’s first-ever case of the condition was found in Nagpur, Maharashtra. It mentioned that the disorder affected the shapes of all organs and was caused by genetic mutations in the ABCA12 protein, which plays an important part in the transportation of fat in cells, which forms the outermost layer of the skin. The survival chance of such babies is very low, around 50%.
